I had the pleasure of collaborating with the Philadelphia Orchestra to create an animated visualizer that would play during school performances of Jupiter, from Holst’s The Planets suite. The animation covers a three minute section of the composition.
Having played in an orchestra as a child, I’ve always have a love for music, and this was a dream collaboration. The main challenge was to develop an engaging piece while working under a tight deadline. I focused the majority of my timeline to creating colorful and detailed illustrations, while using symmetry and kaleidoscope effects to add subtle animations.
Combining techniques of frame-by-frame and 2D motion graphics, the final piece carries the viewer through a journey of jupiter. Where we encounter characters and imagery based on Holst’s themes of fanfare and jollity.
